About

The questions that drive me:

On the individual level: How does one live the most powerful and fulfilling life possible?

On the collective level: How do we create a civilization (which I see as a platform that supports us humans) that is (1) sustainable (porous enough to allow the natural (non man-made) world to flourish unimpeded) while (2) also facilitating the empowerment (to be in abundance of needs, security, and personal pursuits) of every single individual on the planet?

My history

My name is Ben Coe.  Thanks for visiting!

Most of my professional life has been dedicated to managing touring musicians.  I’ve worked at one of the biggest management firms in the world and co-founded several other music business ventures including The Artist Farm.  It may seem like an odd transition to go from the music business to dedicating my life to exploring and promoting that which makes us flourish, but allow me to explain.

The epiphany and transition

I have always seen music as a vehicle for uniting people in deep experience.   Building community out of this experience is the key. The communities I worked with tended to be conscious, creative, nurturing, adventurous, sometimes dark, and often bold – it was the community I loved being around and what I envisioned an ideal world to be like.

These communities hold a key for the vision of our collective future.  These communities manage scale by providing a platform with loose rules rather than restrictive ones and they actively promote participation rather than spectating.  What they get in return is ruthlessly active citizenry.

The community

The community I experienced in music or at Burning Man is a microcosm of something much larger that is happening all around us.  According to Paul Ray there are 80 million Cultural Creatives (people who seek to build a better version of civilization through connecting deeply to self, humanity, and the environment).  There is a communal conversation is actively taking place and in more points than ever before in the history of man, especially thanks to the internet for its ability to connect us all.

The community as it relates to the world

The world is changing quickly.  It is clear that the civilization we have created is still an experiment.  We have not proven that it is sustainable on earth, nor is it maximized for human enjoyment yet.

Conversation is timeless

For all of the change happening in the world there are constants.  There are things that are timeless.  It is the timeless connection with self and spirit, other people, and our natural environment that keep us human.  At the core of our humanity another constant is our ability to converse – with self, others, and our environment.  Conversation is civilization.  It is life.  It keeps us progressing in the right direction.

My work

My mission is to explore and promote that which makes us flourish.  I’ve identified that this happens at 4 levels: self, cultural (engrained beliefs and assumptions), communal (policy, laws), and work (how we engage our time).  This work can be manifest is many ways – this website, live events, or coaching.  But at the end of the day it’s about conversation.  Conversation is our most human characteristic and it deserves to be flexed creatively, powerfully, and compassionately.  My writing and work is about loosening up the lid we screw on ourselves to unleash the flow of authentic conversation we have bottled up inside.

Thanks for joining in this conversation.
